Mallarus

"You can never really know someone till you've looked at their blood. That's why I know I can trust you."

Mallarus was a strange man and Blood Mage who until recently operated from the castle of Widow's Watch in Eriabourne.

History and Personality[]

According to Mallarus, he was raised by a farmer and his wife and enjoyed a happy, uneventful childhood. One day, he read a book about blood golems and decided to see if he could make some.

Mallarus was somewhat easily distracted, but showed a great interest in human anatomy (particularly blood) and was intelligent and careful. His motives were doubtless confused, but he was never concerned with the suffering of others.

Skills and Powers[]

According to Mallarus, he knows the technique for making blood golems, which he demonstrated with the creation of the golem of Lia. Mallarus had great power as a blood magus, and could cast various spells to cause his enemies no end of physical and mental trauma. These included great swirling storms of blood, vicious hemorrhages, and the ability to set a target's blood alight.

In the Campaign[]

Mallarus met the party near Widow's Watch as they travelled to the castle to kill Rhobar the Rotting and his cult of Nerull. Mallarus expressed distaste for the cult, calling them "fools," and asked if Keldin could offer him any blood. The dwarf obliged Mallarus, who promised he would return later.

Mallarus did indeed return, and swore the inductive oath of the Bloodsworn. He also kept the blood of everyone who swore the oath in seperate vials. He spent a period sharing the "lab," with the alchemist Bertrand, though Mallarus did not seem to mind this arrangement.

A number of members of the Bloodsworn - notably Bertrand, Cortis Karano, Daenavyr, and Renagen - lodged complaints about Mallarus to Azuk, Salazar, and Keldin. The Bloodsworn leaders agreed that something would need to be done, and they confronted Mallarus in his chambers. Despite the Mage's powerful magic and the use of the golem, he was defeated and killed.

Legacy[]

A letter in Mallarus' chambers hint at a companion of his named Selwyn. Nothing further is known.
